10 Great Tips To Get The Best Results From Your Dry Cleaner

  1. Tell your cleaner everything you know about the stain. Substance of stain, home stain remover attempts and the age of the stain are important to the cleaner who is trying to remove the stain.
  2. Don’t allow a stain to set. The sooner the garment is cleaned, the more likely the stain will be removable. Don’t be tempted to iron the stain – heat sets stains.
  3. Note the invisible stains and tell your cleaner. Some stains from white wine, soft drinks and sugary substances seem to disappear but can turn brown and are often permanent.
  4. Never remove a care tag. The label has important information for you and your cleaner.
  5. Don’t store your clothes in plastic bags. Dry cleaning bags are meant to protect your clothes in the store and on the way home. Once home, store in a cool dry place.
  6. Prevent prolonged exposure to light. Many white garments are treated with optical brighteners that yellow when exposed to light and heat. Colorful garments will often fade. Be careful of both sunlight and artificial light.
  7. Have matching pieces cleaned together. Normal fading may occur in any cleaning process. Even a slight change can ruin a matching set.
  8. Protect your clothing. Perspiration, perfume, hair spray etc. are all tough on clothing, especially silks. Use garment shields for protection.
  9. Check for rips, tears and loose buttons. Your cleaner will examine your garments for these, but two sets of eyes are better than one.
  10. Work with your dry cleaner. If a garment bleeds, shrinks, or tears, there could be a number of causes. Any International Fabricare Member can send the garment to be analyzed to help find the cause and possible solution.
